To try and define Ka Huna massage is like trying to describe what a flower looks smells and feels like to some who has never seen one before. You can only ever really ‘know’ by the experience of holding a flower in your hands and breathing in it lush fragrances and being in awe at its magical beauty. Like the essence of a flower, Ka Huna is beyond words, and in that moment of giving and receiving it is beyond being and non-being, pure love. It is a celebration of our humanity; it is the massage of life.
The Hawaiian people view all aspects of the body as one, believing that the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual are all part of the ‘whole self’. What makes Ka Huna massage such a very special style is its combination of movement, dance, rhythm, breath, energy and massage. The practitioner is in constant movement around the massage table, following specific patterns of foot placement and body posture. The arms sweep over the body in long, flowing movements to the pulse of music, creating a very fluid and rhythmical massage, like a bird flying through the sky.
Another characteristic of Ka Huna is the application of flowing strokes using forearms, elbows as well as two hands combining body draining, soft and deep tissue massage, under body massage, and energy balancing to form very dynamic and transformational bodywork, perfect for enhancing fertility.
Ka Huna Bodywork explores: the Huna Philosophy: The seven principles of Huna
- Ike Means ‘to see, know, feel, perceive, be aware, understand’ The world is what you think it is
- Kala means ‘to loosed, untie, free, release, forgive’ There are no limits
- Mākia means ‘aim, purpose, to aim or strive for, to concentrate on’ Energy Flows where attention goes
- Manawa means ‘time, season, affections, feelings’ Now is the moment of power
- Aloha means “love, affection, compassion, sympathy, kindness, charity” and so much more To love is to be happy with
- Mana means ‘supernatural or divine power, miraculous power, authority, power’ All power comes from within
- Pono, the word representing the last principle, means goodness, moral qualities, correct or proper procedure, excellence, wellbeing, prosperity, success, assets, use, purpose’ Effectiveness is the measure of truth or Truth is measured by results
Ka Huna bodywork also explores Hawaiian breathing and male/female energy balance. It emphasizes the importance of intent, focus, belief systems, movement and dance within the massage. This is the massage of Life!
Aroha Healing Miri Miri
Miri miri is the traditional holistic healing tradition or massage technique of Maori, the indigenous people of Aotearoa / New Zealand. Miri miri is steeped in Maori customs and culture, encompassing whanau ora (family health), tinana ora (physical health), hinengaro ora (mental health), and wairua ora (spiritual health). Maori culture is thought to have originated from the Pacific Ocean, with links to languages from both Tahitian and Hawaiian cultures, and is associated and inspired by nature. Miri miri is a holistic tradition used for healing the physical, emotional and spiritual elements of ourselves, as opposed to Western traditions, which primarily focus on the physical.
Practitioners follow in the footsteps of their ancestors, following a tradition that dates back hundreds of years, whilst evolving the technique to embrace our modern society.
The massage dance is preceded by karakia (traditional prayer), followed by rhythmic, therapeutic massage strokes inspired by the natural flow of nature and the ocean. Practitioners will use gentle breathing techniques to allow for the transfer of energy to the recipient, resulting in a more balanced, therapeutic and deeply relaxing experience.
